Example 16.4b: Will Ice Spontaneously Melt?

In example 16.4, \(ΔS_{\mathrm{univ}}\) for melting of ice was determined at two different temperatures:

\(ΔS_{\mathrm{univ}} = - 0.7\ \frac{\mathrm{J}}{\mathrm{K}} \cdot \mathrm{for} \cdot T = - 10.00 \cdot °C\)

\(ΔS_{\mathrm{univ}} = 0.9\ \frac{\mathrm{J}}{\mathrm{K}} \cdot \mathrm{for} \cdot T = 10.00 \cdot °C\)

Using this information, determine if liquid water will spontaneously freeze at the same temperatures. What can you say about the values of Suniv?
